Meaningful Luxury: Designing From Land to Sea
Episode 8 of The Balance with Andreana Jackson
We are entering a new era of luxury—one defined not by excess, but by wellness, intention, and the pursuit of a life that feels as good as it looks.
This shift is reshaping how we design, how we live, and how we connect—with ourselves and the world around us.
In Episode 8 of The Balance with Andreana Jackson, I sat down with two women who embody this new definition of meaningful luxury:
• MarieCarmen Castillon, Founder & CEO, MarieCarmen Castillon Interior Designs
• AnnaMaria Lipsig, Luxury Real Estate Advisor at Fortune Christie’s & Board-Certified Wellness Coach
Together, we explored how luxury is evolving from the ground up—literally from land to sea.

The Soul of a Space
From the moment MarieCarmen sat across from me, her passion was unmistakable. For her, interior design isn’t decoration—it’s translation. She listens deeply to her clients to reflect who they truly are, creating environments that allow them to come home to themselves.
She believes luxury today is defined by:
✓ natural materials
✓ sensory wellness
✓ emotional balance
✓ intentional color palettes
✓ peaceful morning and evening rituals
“Your home is your sacred space,” she told me. “It should support your soul.”
A Return to Wellness
AnnaMaria’s path to wellness began decades before she entered real estate. Raised near the Athens Riviera, she grew up surrounded by community gatherings, Mediterranean living, laughter, and nature. Those early experiences later shaped her philosophy:
Wellness is not an activity — it’s a lifestyle.
After a successful career in finance, she transitioned into real estate with a mission:
to help people live where they can thrive.
That mission led her to a project that would change everything…
ULYSSIA: A New Era of Global Living
ULYSSIA is not a yacht.
It is not a cruise ship.
It is a floating residential world — a next-generation, over-100 foot giga-yacht with fewer than 122 private homes designed for global exploration, humanitarian impact, and wellness-centered living.
Robb Report describes ULYSSIA as “a traveling Monaco,” designed to carry residents to the world’s most extraordinary destinations—from iconic coastlines to remote indigenous communities—while giving back along the way.[1]
What residents can expect:
• A 20,000 sq ft longevity & wellness center powered by SHA
• State-of-the-art integrative health programs, including the Chenot Method
• Two submarines + two helicopters
• Global expeditions (one warm, one cold)
• Custom interior design (including marine-certified materials)
• A philanthropic mission to leave every destination better than they found it
AnnaMaria’s words stayed with me:
“This is luxury with purpose.”
The Science of Designing for the Sea
Designing a home is an art. Designing a yacht is an art and an engineering feat.
MarieCarmen explained that marine projects require:
• fire-retardant materials
• strict weight restrictions
• specialized marine-certified finishes
• custom fabrication
• structural balance considerations
• suppliers who specialize in nautical projects
Her goal?
To merge the warmth of a home with the precision of ocean-worthy design.
Wellness at Home — For Everyone
Even if you’re not renovating a yacht or living in a penthouse, wellness can begin today.
MarieCarmen’s accessible wellness tips:
1. Declutter
Energy shifts the moment your space is clear.
2. Choose earthy, calm tones
Think browns, taupes, soft marbles, and natural textures.
3. Create a sacred corner
A candle. A plant. A meditation pillow. A moment just for you.
4. Nourish your kitchen
A harmonious kitchen leads to more intentional eating and a calmer mind.
5. Bring nature inside
Plants, sunlight, and natural scents elevate the mood instantly.
A New Definition of Luxury
As we wrapped our conversation, I reflected on what luxury truly means today.
It isn’t loud.
It isn’t rushed.
It’s intentional.
Luxury is the quiet balcony overlooking the water.
It’s the soft, grounding palette in your kitchen.
It’s the place where your spirit exhales.
And in some cases, luxury is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to live on a vessel traveling the world with purpose.
This is meaningful luxury.
This is wellness-centered living.
This is The Balance.
