Life Is Short. Be Fierce: Inside the Confidence Movement of Glynnis “GiGi” Stoot How dance, movement, and self-expression became tools for transformation

By Andreana Jackson | Wellness

Confidence isn’t something you’re born with—it’s something you build.

That was the central theme of a deeply personal and empowering conversation on The Balance with Andreana Jackson, where Glynnis “GiGi” Stoot—Confidence Coach, professional fitness instructor, model, and creator of GiGi’s Dance Party—opened up about transformation, movement, femininity, and the journey toward self-worth.

What unfolded was more than a conversation about fitness. It became a reflection on identity, healing, and the power of movement to reconnect people with themselves.

Confidence as a Practice

For GiGi, confidence is not performative. It’s intentional.

Growing up shy and introverted in the Chicago suburbs, she described herself as someone who once tried to move through life unnoticed. But over time, she realized that the insecurities she once viewed as weaknesses would eventually become her greatest strength.

Today, her work centers on helping women rediscover their voice—not just emotionally, but physically.

“Confidence isn’t something you wait for—it’s something you build.”

Through affirmations, movement, and self-awareness, GiGi encourages people to actively reshape the way they speak to themselves. Because, as she explained during the conversation, the body is always listening.

More Than Dance—A Community

What started as a fitness concept evolved into something much deeper.

GiGi’s Dance Party—a cardio hip-hop fusion experience born out of her years teaching in New York studios and Miami fitness spaces—is built around energy, freedom, and emotional release.

But the true heartbeat of the class is community.

Inside the studio, movement becomes a shared language. Newcomers stand beside longtime dancers who have spent years learning GiGi’s signature style and choreography vocabulary. The result is an atmosphere that feels far more personal than a traditional fitness class.

Participants cheer each other on. Friendships are formed. Walls begin to come down.

And perhaps most importantly, people begin taking up space unapologetically.

One of the defining moments of every class is the chant:

“We are fierce.”

What began as a breathing cue evolved into what GiGi calls a “battle cry”—a way for people to reclaim their voice and confidence out loud.

The Science of Movement

One of the most compelling aspects of GiGi’s philosophy is how deeply it aligns with science.

Dance and movement activate multiple areas of the brain simultaneously while releasing serotonin, dopamine, oxytocin, and endorphins—the very chemicals tied to mood, emotional regulation, and well-being.

It’s why people often leave class feeling lighter, more energized, and emotionally reset.

As GiGi explained, movement creates a natural emotional high—one that can shift not just the body, but the mind.

“Movement changes your chemistry—and your confidence.”

Reclaiming Femininity

Another powerful dimension of the conversation centered around femininity and embodiment.

GiGi spoke candidly about the women she works with—many of them executives, entrepreneurs, and high-performing professionals—who have spent years operating in highly masculine environments.

Through heels classes, posture training, and movement work, many of these women are reconnecting with softness, sensuality, and presence in ways they were never taught growing up.

Not for performance.
Not for validation.
But for themselves.

A Life Philosophy That Lands

At the core of GiGi’s work is a mantra that feels both aspirational and urgent:

Life is short. Be fierce.

It’s more than branding. It’s the energy that drives everything she creates—from the choreography to the affirmations to the community she has built around movement and self-expression.

And perhaps that’s what makes GiGi’s Dance Party resonate so deeply.

It’s not about getting every move right.

It’s about showing up anyway.

The Balance

At its best, wellness is not just about how we look—it’s about how we feel, how we heal, and how we reconnect with ourselves.

This conversation with Glynnis “GiGi” Stoot explored all of it: confidence, movement, identity, femininity, vulnerability, and transformation.

Because confidence isn’t something you find.

It’s something you practice.
